Sinoe County Senator Crayton O. Duncan has voiced his concerns over the voting habits of Liberians. Duncan said, the populace, specifically the young voters, have historically struggled to elect rightful leaders into offices.

His comment comes as Liberia approaches its next electoral cycle (2029), a pivotal moment for the nation seeking to strengthen its democratic processes.

Sen. Duncan, a 2029 presidential aspirant, said some Liberians have not been accustomed to making informed choices when voting.

He believes that this trend has contributed to ongoing challenges in governance and development.

“We must recognize that our choices at the ballot box have profound implications for our future.”

Duncan spoke during a welcome program hosted by the interim leadership of the Student Council Government at the African Methodist Episcopal Zion University (AMEZU) in Po- River, Bomi County. He highlighted the importance of voter education, urging citizens to thoroughly research candidates, who can stand up for the betterment of citizens.
He said many individuals often rely on popularity or party affiliation, rather than voting for leaders committed to serve their constituents.

“We cannot afford to repeat our past mistakes. It is essential to elect leaders, who are not only capable, but also genuinely committed to the welfare of the people. With the upcoming elections, there is hope that voters will take a more proactive approach to their civic duties, ensuring that they support candidates, who would prioritize transparency, accountability, and development. The future of Liberia depends on the youth,” he urged.

As the election season is yet faraway, many Liberians are watching to see if Duncan’s call for change resonates with voters, leading to a more informed electorate and, ultimately, a brighter future.

Meanwhile, Duncan has pledged a 73-seater bus to the administration of the AMEZU to ease the transportation burden on students.

He called on all Liberians to engage in discussions about the importance of voting wisely.

“As we are approaching the elections, let us remember that our democracy is only as strong as our commitment to make informed choices.”
