Boakai Dedicates 2 Renovated Barracks
President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, over the weekend, dedicated the newly renovated Camp Jones Military Barracks in Kakata, Margibi County, and Camp Grant Military Barracks in Sanniquellie, Nimba County.
The two developmental events, according to a release, marked a major milestone in government’s commitment to strengthening country’s national defense infrastructure and improve the welfare of members of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL).
At the dedication ceremony, Pres. Boakai described the renovated facilities as “symbols of national presence and progress, because they represent far more than structural mere improvements.” Senior government officials, military leadership, local authorities, and community members attended the Saturday events.
The President said, the two projects reflect his Administration’s steadfast commitment to the dignity, readiness, and welfare of country’s men and women in uniform.
“For too long, our brave soldiers have contended with congested and inadequate facilities. Today, we decisively address this challenge,” the President declared, noting: “these modernized barracks will provide our soldiers with living and working conditions that reflect the respect this nation holds for them. Adequate housing, proper sanitation, and functional workspaces are not luxuries; they are fundamental necessities for a professional military force.”
The renovated projects, made possible through government funding, and executed with the collaboration of the Ministry of National Defense and local contractors.
They aim to significantly decongest existing military facilities while improving the operational readiness and quality of life for soldiers and their families.
Pres. Boakai meanwhile, commended Brigadier General Geraldine Janet George (Rtd.), Minister of National Defense, the Armed Forces leadership, contractors, engineers, workers, and the people of Kakata and Sanniquelle for their contributions and patience during the renovation process.
“These barracks will serve not only as homes for our soldiers, but as hubs of professionalism, centers for training excellence, and beacons of stability within their respective counties,” the President stated.
“They will strengthen the bond between our military and civilian populations, a bond essential for national security and prosperity,” he assured.
The President then called on officers and enlisted personnel to take pride in the facilities and maintain them to the highest standards, reminding them of their indispensable role in protecting country’s peace, territorial integrity, and democratic values.
While reaffirming his Administration’s broader agenda, Pres. Boakai pledged continued investment in the AFL training, equipment, welfare, and infrastructure.
“With a heart full of hope for the future of our Armed Forces and our beloved Liberia, I hereby dedicate Camp Jones and Camp Grant to the service of the country, and the gallant men and women of the AFL,” he declared to a round of applause from those in the gathering.
