Former President Pro Tempore of the Liberian Senate, Armah Zolu Jallah, has declared his intention to contest for the position of National Chairman of the National Patriotic Party (NPP), promising sweeping institutional reforms to strengthen the party’s structures, improve financial accountability and restore its political relevance.
Jallah announced his ambition in a declaration titled “A New Vision for the National Patriotic Party,” ahead of the party’s upcoming convention, where he outlined a reform agenda aimed at addressing what he described as prolonged institutional challenges, declining organizational visibility and weakening party structures.
He said his ambition goes beyond occupying a leadership position, stressing that his priority is to rebuild the institution, reconnect with grassroots members and restore the NPP’s position in Liberia’s political landscape.
According to him, the party needs reflection, renewal and accountable leadership to address its organizational challenges and prepare for the future.
As part of his proposed reform programme, Jallah identified five major priorities he intends to pursue if elected.
The first is an independent financial audit of the party’s revenues, expenditures, bank accounts, assets, liabilities and other financial obligations.
He said the exercise would establish the party’s actual financial position and provide a foundation for transparent financial management.
He also pledged to assess the party’s national and county structures, membership organization, grassroots mobilization and administrative operations to determine their effectiveness.
On property management, the former Senate leader proposed reviewing party-owned properties, leases, contracts, income and outstanding financial obligations to promote transparency and ensure that the party’s assets are properly managed.
Jallah further promised to strengthen adherence to the NPP Constitution, promote internal democracy and protect the rights of party members through greater transparency and accountability.
His institutional renewal agenda also includes modernizing the party’s administration, strengthening county structures, expanding women’s and youth participation, empowering grassroots members and establishing sustainable financial and organizational systems.
He said the findings from the proposed reviews would guide a practical reform programme with clear priorities, assigned responsibilities, measurable targets and implementation timelines.
Jallah also disclosed plans to consult former national chairpersons, founding members, current and former party leaders, county officials, stakeholders and ordinary partisans to develop a shared vision for the party.
He said the consultations would respect the NPP’s history while ensuring that members from different backgrounds participate in determining its future direction.
Emphasizing collective responsibility, Jallah noted that institutional transformation could not be achieved by one individual but would require cooperation, experience and commitment from members across the party.
“My commitment is to provide leadership founded on integrity, inclusiveness, accountability, innovation and service,” he said.
He noted that the NPP must become institutionally strong, financially sustainable, democratically governed and responsive to the aspirations of its membership.
Jallah called on senior partisans, women, young people and grassroots supporters to participate in efforts to rebuild the party and restore confidence in its future.
“Together, let us rebuild. Together, let us reform. Together, let us renew the NPP,” he declared.
His declaration places institutional reform, financial accountability and grassroots mobilization among the issues expected to feature in the NPP’s upcoming leadership contest as the party prepares to determine its next national leadership.
