Phebe Hospital and School of Nursing has yet erupted into a renewed crisis.
This time, the facility has moved to address longstanding challenges confronting its laundry operations with the acquisition of modern industrial washing equipment valued at approximately US$1,900.
The new equipment, which includes two 18-kilogram industrial washing machines, and an 8-kilogram dryer, is expected to improve the efficiency of the Laundry Department while supporting sanitation, and infection-prevention efforts.
The intervention comes as laundry workers continue to handle large quantities of hospital linens, uniforms, and other materials required for the daily operation of the healthcare facility.
Hospital authorities say, the new machines are expected to reduce the physical workload on staff, and allow the department to process laundry more efficiently.
Phebe Hospital Administrator Steve Z. Korvah, acknowledged that the institution has faced challenges in maintaining efficient laundry, and sanitation services.
Korvah described the acquisition of the equipment as an important step to improve working conditions, and provide laundry workers with better tools to perform their duties.
He also expressed optimism that additional improvements could be made through the Community Drug Revolving Fund (CDRF) initiative the Ministry of Health introduced.
He said, continued support would be important to address other operational needs, and strengthen the hospital’s capacity to provide quality healthcare services.
Meanwhile, the head of Phebe Hospital’s Laundry Department, Samuel Brown, has welcomed the intervention.
Brown said, the new equipment would ease the physical burden on laundry workers, and improve the overall efficiency of their operations.
Phebe Hospital says the acquisition forms part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen support services, improve sanitation practices, and enhance the working environment.
