Politics has different dimensions in governance as President Joseph Boakai used one of those dimensions, and removed Justice Minister N. Oswald Tweh, Solicitor General, Augustine C. Fayiah, and Grand Gedeh County Superintendent, Alex Chersia Grant from his government.
Prior to the Boakai’s decision on Wednesday, September 2, Grand Gedians have rejected the administration of Mr. Grant, citing reasons of academic fraud, and rowdy behavior.
The president decision comes at a critical time when the government is entrenched in high-profile drug, and corruption cases that are currently being adjudicated in court.
According to an Executive Mansion released, the dismissals of top legal officials are part of a strategy to realign the legal framework, and enhance the administration’s approach to tackling pressing legal issues.
The move has raised eyebrows given the timing, as these key figures were overseeing some of the most consequential legal battles facing the nation.
In the wake of these changes, reports suggest that former Solicitor General Betty Lamin-Blamo has been appointed as Justice Minister-designate, with Abrahim B. Sillah, named as the solicitor-general designate. Both appointments are pending confirmation by the Senate, which will ultimately determine the final structure of the legal leadership. As the situation develops, stakeholders are encouraged to remain informed, and engaged, as the outcomes of these appointments could have lasting effects on the rule of law, and governance. Meanwhile, Boakai has name Ms. Angel M. Morris as Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection Deputy Minister for Public Affairs, and Harrison K. Sorsor, Assistant Minister for Research, Policy, and Planning. dditionally, Alex Chersia Grant, has been appointed as Commissioner of the Public Procurement and Concessions Commission (PPCC), while Christopher Ben Bailey, has been appointed Superintendent of Grand Gedeh County. Ohers appointed are, Benedict Yeke Harleysion, Chairman of the Board of the National Transit Authority.
These appointments are part of Pres. Boakai’s ongoing efforts to strengthen key institutions, and enhance the effective delivery of public services.
