Residents of Gbondoi Zone in Yelequelleh District, Lower Bong County, are set to receive improved telecommunications services following the commencement of construction of a Lonestar Cell network tower in the area.
The project is expected to address longstanding communication difficulties that have affected residents of Gbondoi and surrounding towns, where unreliable network coverage has made it difficult for people to communicate, conduct business and access information.
For communities in the zone, the construction represents a major development after years of waiting for improved telecommunications services.
General Town Chief, Mary Ben, welcomed the initiative, describing the network project as an important step towards improving communication and supporting economic activity in the area.
Speaking to journalists, Chief Ben said residents of Gbondoi Zone had long been awaiting improved network services and expressed appreciation to Lonestar Cell for responding to concerns raised by the community.
She said better connectivity could bring significant benefits to residents, particularly businesses and young people who increasingly depend on mobile communication and internet services.
Chief Ben further linked improved network access to economic development, saying reliable communication would make it easier for residents to connect with customers, suppliers, relatives and institutions outside the community.
Residents of Gbondoi Zone and nearby towns have welcomed the project, saying poor network service has affected several aspects of daily life.
For local businesses, weak connectivity has reportedly created challenges in communicating with customers and conducting transactions. Students and other young people have also faced difficulties accessing information and maintaining communication with people outside the area.
Community members therefore see the tower project as more than an expansion of telecommunications infrastructure, with expectations that it could contribute to broader social and economic opportunities.
The construction also comes amid growing demands from rural communities across Liberia for improved access to telecommunications infrastructure.
In many remote communities, reliable mobile connectivity is increasingly viewed as essential infrastructure, alongside roads, electricity and other basic services.
Chief Ben thanked Lonestar Cell for responding to the community’s concerns and urged residents to support the project as construction progresses.
She said the arrival of improved network services would bring development closer to residents and help connect Gbondoi Zone with other parts of Liberia.
Once completed and operational, the tower is expected to strengthen network coverage in Gbondoi and surrounding communities.
Residents are now looking forward to the completion of the project, hoping that the new infrastructure will finally ease years of communication challenges and create new opportunities for commerce, education and community development.
