The management of the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC) has broken ground to construct a mini decentralized water supply system in Totota, Bong County.

The project intends to address the long-standing shortage of safe, and affordable drinking water in Totota, Bong County.

LWSC Managing Director, Moi Ali said, the project represents an important step to improve access to clean, and reliable water for the residents.

Ali said, the project would serve households, schools, health facilities, businesses, and other institutions to address the water challenges that have affected residents for years.

He said, the project forms part of LWSC’s effort to expand services beyond Monrovia, and other major urban centers, particularly in communities where access to safe drinking water remains limited.

Ali also acknowledged the contributions of Konowala District #6 Representative, Moima Briggs Mensah, and Senator Prince Kermue Moye, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ways, Means, Finance and Budget, for their budgetary advocacy, and support that secured the funding for the project.

Ali: “The success of the project will depend, not only on its construction, but also on the commitment of residents to protect, and properly maintain the facility once completed.”

He urged community members to take ownership of the water system, and work with local authorities to ensure that the infrastructure remains functional, and serves its intended purpose for years to come.

Residents have welcomed the project, and described it as a timely intervention after years of difficulties in accessing reliable sources of clean water.

Some residents expressed the hope that the new system will reduce the burden of searching for water in the bushes, and improve sanitation.

The project is expected to improved public health by reducing residents’ reliance on unsafe water sources, and minimize the risk of waterborne diseases.
