LRRRC Enrolls ‘Integrated’ Ivorian Refugees
By Domingo Dargbeh
The Liberia Refugee Repatriation and Resettlement Commission (LRRRC), has begun the biometric enrollment of ‘integrated’ Ivorian refugees in Nimba, Grand Gedeh, and Maryland counties.
The exercise, which started Saturday, June 27, 2026, is done in collaboration with the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS).
It is part of efforts to regularize the legal status of integrated Ivorian refugees and improve their civil documentation.
It also targets former Ivorian refugees, who over the years, have already settled and become part of Liberian communities.
Through the biometric system, government aims to issue resident permits to those who have received their Ivorian passports, and ensure that they are properly documented in the immigration system and civil registration framework.
LRRRC Executive Director, Jeror Cole Bangalu made the disclosure in Nimba County during the commencement of the exercise.
The initiative is designed to strengthen refugee management to promote inclusion for former refugees, who have successfully integrated into Liberian society.
The exercise, Bangalu said, will improve access to public services and reduce identity-related challenges faced by the former Ivorian refugees, who have integrated into Liberian society.
The biometric registration is being carried out jointly by LRRRC and LIS, reflecting inter-agency cooperation to address refugee-related and migration issues.
The exercise is an important step toward legal recognition of integrated refugees and effort to bring order to migration governance system.
At the start of the process, 46 former integrated Ivorian refugees were enrolled in the biometric system and issued passports in Bahn and Saclepea, Nimba County.
Meanwhile, as part of the celebration of World Refugee Day, which was celebrated on June 17, 2026, in Monrovia, Bangalu donated 50 bags of 25kg rice, and 50 gallons of oil, and T-shirts to commemorate the day.
In his opening remarks through an interpreter, the chairman of the integrated Ivorian Refugees, Paul Kango, thanked the LRRRC for the donation.
He recalled how the donation was the first time since 2014, to receive rations from any LRRRC Executive Director.
