13 LiMA-Sponsored Students Graduate From Regional Maritime University

The Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA) has graduated 13 students sponsored by the Authority from the Regional Maritime University (RMU) in Accra, Ghana.

The graduates were honored during the university’s 20th congregation ceremony held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, after completing master’s and bachelor’s degree programs over two-year and four-year periods respectively.

Their graduation underscores LiMA’s continued investment in developing a skilled maritime workforce capable of serving the shipping industry.

On the achievement, LiMA Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer, Neto Zarzar Lighe, described the graduation as a major milestone in the Authority’s strategic effort to expand educational opportunities for young Liberians, and produce qualified professionals for the growing global maritime sector.

Lighe said, Liberia’s position as one of the world’s leading maritime nations, carries the responsibility of investing in competent professionals, who can strengthen the country’s maritime industry while contributing to international shipping.

“This milestone, which has seen 13 Liberians the Authority sponsored, graduated from the Regional Maritime University with master’s and bachelor’s degrees in various disciplines, is a testament to our commitment to develop a competent maritime workforce.”

Lighe congratulated the graduates for their academic excellence and dedication. He encouraged them to apply the knowledge and skills they acquired to advance the maritime sector as they maintain high standards of professionalism, integrity and service.

Lighe: “Liberia’s management of the world’s largest ship registry requires sustained investment in human capital.”

He said, through scholarship opportunities, professional training, and strategic partnerships with institutions such as the RMU, LiMA continues to strengthen the pool of qualified maritime professionals.

He noted that the graduation of the 13 scholars represents more than an academic accomplishment, which he described as an investment in the future.

The graduates, who earned Master of Arts (MA) degrees in Port and Shipping Administration are: Geneve T. Bantu, Jeremy George, Booker Dabowoe Harvey Jr., Jenevee Jacobs, Aloysius W. Kpogbah, Willimina Zoe Varney, Esmond Ceidee Wulue, Dorgas Diggs, Boima Macdonald Freeman, George G. Kiadii, Siaffa Abu Konteh and Curtis Payne.

Also graduated under the LiMA scholarship program were: Spurgeon Clarence Capehart, who earned a Master’s Degree in International Shipping and Logistics; Tokpah James, Jr., who obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree with Honors in Marine Engineering; Emric Howard, who received a Bachelor of Science Degree with Honors in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

The event marked the 20th congregation ceremony, in which the Acting Vice Chancellor, Dr. Jethro W. Brooks, Jr. disclosed that a total of 368 students graduated with master’s degrees, bachelor’s degrees, and diplomas in various academic disciplines.

The graduation of the LiMA-sponsored students further demonstrates the Authority’s commitment to strengthen maritime human resource capacity through strategic investment in higher education and specialized professional training.
