Grand Kru County Health Officer, Dr. Learwellie Craig, II, has lauded government and the Ministry of Health (MoH) for major investments to improve healthcare delivery.

Dr. Craig said, the county has received an additional ambulance, and a brand-new four-door Jeep to support emergency medical services, supervision and monitoring activities.

The arrival of the new ambulance marks a milestone for the health sector, which for years, struggled to provide emergency transportation services with only one ambulance serving the entire county.

“The additional ambulance will greatly improve our emergency response capacity, and ensure that patients in critical condition can be transported more efficiently to health facilities.”

Dr. Craig assured that the newly assigned vehicle will enhance the ability of county health authorities to conduct regular supervision, monitor, and support visits to health facilities, particularly those located in remote communities.

He expressed gratitude to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, and the Minister of Health, Dr. Louis M. Kpoto, for the intervention.

He described the intervention as a clear demonstration of government’s commitment to improve healthcare services nationwide.

He emphasized the need for support that will contribute significantly to strengthen healthcare delivery, improve access to medical services, and enhance health outcomes for residents.

In addition to the provision of vehicles, Dr. Craig highlighted gains made in strengthening the health workforce.

He said, government recently employed the more than 30 volunteer health workers formally.

The employment of the volunteers has addressed staffing shortages across several health facilities while it boosted morale of healthcare workers, who had served for years without formal employment.

Craig described the move as a major achievement for the health sector, and expressed optimism that the additional personnel and logistical support will further improve the quality of healthcare services available to citizens.

Dr. Craig meanwhile, reaffirmed the county health team’s commitment to work with the MoH and other partners to ensure that residents continue to benefit from improved healthcare services.
