The Ministry of Mines and Energy, has started carrying out a 10-day technical analysis on the St. Paul River Basin.
The ministry is conducting the analysis in a firm move to ensure coordination among government institutions to stimulate efficiency and effective delivery of basic services.
According to a release, this water resources management exercise is being undertaken in adherence to a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Ministry, and the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC).
The Director of the country’s Hydrological Service (LHS), Wynitta Gwaikolo-Mayson, the exercise is leading a team of water engineers and technicians to conduct the study.
The study began on June 30, and will end on July 9, 2025.
The Liberia Hydrological Service (LHS), is one of two bureaus in the department of Mineral Exploration and Environmental Research of the Ministry. The LHS is teaming up with the LEC and other national and international consultants in executing the 10-day task. The task seeks to collect data and perform some analysis on discharge, sediment transport and turbidity of the St. Paul River.
The St. Paul River basin covers 8,460 square miles, 21,911 kilometers between Liberia and Guinea.
“The objective of the MoU is to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, capacity building and competence enhancement for both the Hydrological Service and LEC,” Madam Gwaikolo-Mayson said.
