In the wake of the death of veteran American lawmaker, Lindsey Olin Graham, former President George Weah, has extended heartfelt condolences to United States President Donald J. Trump, the family of the late Senator, and the Government and people of the United States.

In a formal letter of condolence addressed to Pres. Trump, Weah described Senator Graham’s death as a profound loss, not only to the United States, but the international community, where the South Carolina Republican was widely recognized for his decades-long influence on foreign policy, national security and bipartisan legislative engagement.

Sen. Graham died on July 11, 2026, at the age of 71, after a “brief and sudden illness.”

Preliminary findings from the District of Columbia Medical Examiner indicate that Sen. Graham died from an aortic dissection associated with arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

Mr. Weah conveyed his deepest sympathies to Pres. Trump, the bereaved Graham’s family, and the American people, emphasizing that Senator Graham’s passing leaves “a significant void” in the political and diplomatic landscape of the United States.

He described Graham as “a great statesman, devoted public servant and a patriot,” whose distinguished career was marked by unwavering dedication to public service, democratic governance and America’s leadership on global affairs.

Weah said, Liberia joins the international community in mourning the passing of a leader, whose public life reflected steadfast service to his country.

Graham served in the United States Senate for more than two decades, representing South Carolina since 2003, after serving four terms in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Throughout his congressional career, he became one of Washington’s most influential voices on defense, foreign relations, judicial affairs, and national security, earning recognition from colleagues across party lines for his experience and commitment to public service.
