Concerning the county development in Grand Kru County, Superintendent Antoinette Worley Nimely, has spoken of how her predecessor, Doris Ylatun, left approximately US$40,000, and L$21 million in the county development accounts.
Supt. Nimely’s disclosure followed comments the County Development Officer, Joe Momo Sekpeh made when he appeared on Voice of Grand Kru Radio on Tuesday, September 8.
While on air, Sekpeh confirmed how sufficient funds were left in the development accounts. He did not disclose the specific amount.
For that, Supt. Nimely clarified how the L$21 million was not uncommitted cash available for new projects.
She said, the money had already been allocated during the 13th County Sitting for the procurement of a vehicle for the County Development Officer.
Supt. Nimely said, the vehicle has since been purchased, and paid for, but it is currently being used by Sekpeh.
As of the US$40,000, Supt. Nimely said, it remained earmarked for two ongoing development projects, including the Youth Center, and the Norkwia Clinic.
Her clarification effectively puts figures to earlier references by county officials about funds inherited from the previous administration, while also distinguishing between money reportedly left in the accounts, and funds already committed to specific projects.
“When we are on air, and these questions are asked, we should clarify to our people,” Supt. Nimely said.
She stressed the need for discussions to surround the county’s finances to be based on accurate information, warning that incomplete, or unclear statements could create confusion among residents.
