Bong County generated more than US$444,000 in revenue contributions to the government between January, and June 2026, according to the county Labor Commissioner, William Sumoward.
Sumoward said, the county contributed a total of US$444,750 to national government revenue during the first six months of 2026, with a substantial portion reportedly coming from foreign nationals employed by mining companies.
He attributed the increase in revenue collection to the resumption of operations by MNG Gold in Kokoyah District, which he said, has significantly increased the number of foreign workers contributing to government revenue.
Sumoward: “Foreign employees of MNG Gold accounted for approximately US$324,000 of the total amount generated during the period under review.”
He said, the figure represents the largest share of the county revenue contribution during the six-month period.
Sumoward explained how MNG Gold currently employs 108 foreign nationals, with each foreign employee contributing US$3,000 to the government. Based on that figure, the contributions from the company’s foreign workforce constitute a major component of the reported revenue generation.
He said, the remaining US$120,750 was generated through contributions associated with other mining companies, and foreign nationals engaged in commercial activities.
He specifically identified Da-Tang and Huriene Mining Companies, along with foreign nationals operating commercial stores in Gbarnga, as additional sources of the revenue recorded between January and June.
