Simeon Freeman, political leader of the opposition Movement for Progressive Change (MPC), urged graduates of the Paynesville Seventh Day Adventist High School (SDA) to move beyond traditional job-seeking methods, and embrace innovative solutions to the challenges they face.
“Don’t rely on the usual channels,” Freeman advised the graduates when he delivered the keynote address at the school’s 21st graduation ceremony.
The ceremony was held at the Samuel Kanya Doe Basketball Arena over the weekend.
Freeman expressed concern over the pressing issues affecting youth, and society at large, particularly the “deteriorating economic conditions.”
“Many people have elected leaders, who merely move around while the real challenges remain unaddressed.”
He narrated the struggles families encounter in affording basic necessities, including education for their children.
Freeman pointed to the rising costs of tuition, and transportation for students as some of the barriers the country is faced with.
He expressed frustration among Liberians regarding their current leaders, and the overall state of the economy.
“Prices of everything have increased, making it difficult for families to thrive.”
He referenced the anticipated collection of $US 47 million in taxes from the national road funds.
Freeman meanwhile, encouraged the graduates to focus on providing services, and solutions, “because, by doing so, they would create value, not only for themselves, but for their communities.”
He called on the students to think critically about their roles in developing the country, and to actively contribute to societal progress.
As the graduates prepare to embark on the next chapter of their lives, Freeman’s message of resilience, and empowerment resonated, inspiring them to become proactive contributors to their communities, and the nation as a whole.
