Senator McGill Seeks Education’s Budgetary Increment
As the 2024 Fiscal year budget debate continues at the Legislature, the Margibi County Senator Nathaniel McGill has advocated for further increment in the education budget through the Ministry of Education. According to him, seeking for additional money in the education budget will go a long way to strengthen the educational sector. The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education made the disclosed over the weekend at the Capitol Building with Legislative reporters.
He noted that there are teachers working in public schools across the country who have been placed on government payrolls over the years, but serving as voluntary teachers. He stressed that the education sector should be funded adequately through national budgetary allotment, noting that it is critical towards transforming the Liberia education system. The Margibi County Lawmaker maintained that increasing the Ministry of Education budget will champion fight to equip teachers training institutes to produce qualify and competent teachers to mood the minds of Liberian children across the nation. At the same time, the Senator McGill has lauded the President and Pro-tempore of the Liberian Senate Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence for looking in the direction of making fund available in the National Budget for the rebuilding of the C.H.Rennie Government Hospital.
He pointed out that rebuilding of the hospital is crucial for the people of Margibi and adjusting counties and allotting money to carryout construction works should be embraced by the Plenary of the Liberian Senate. He proposed that US$1 million should made available in the National Budget for the rebuilding process of the C.H. Rennie Hospital through a communication to Plenary, but the Grand Bassa County Senator and Pro- tempore of the Liberian Senate Lawrence assured him that the leadership of the Senate has look in that direction. It can be recalled that the C.H. Rennie Government Hospital gotten fire in August 17, 2021.
