Saygbe Boosts Community Journalism In Grand Kru

Community Journalism in Grand Kru County has received a significant boost following the donation of an air-conditioning system and Starlink internet service to Voice of Grand Kru 98.1 FM by NAFFA Director J. Cyrus Saygbe Sr.

The intervention is expected to improve both the working conditions of journalists and the station’s technological capacity after years of operating with limited infrastructure.

For nearly five years, staff of Voice of Grand Kru worked without an adequate cooling system, leaving journalists and technical personnel to conduct daily broadcasting activities in a hot studio environment.

The situation became particularly challenging during periods of high temperatures, creating an uncomfortable working environment for staff who spend long hours inside the studio.

The newly installed air conditioner is now providing relief while helping create a more professional environment for news production, interviews, programming, and other station activities.

At the same time, the Starlink installation is expected to address one of the station’s major technological challenges—reliable internet access.

With improved connectivity, the station is expected to have greater access to online news sources, social media platforms, digital communication, research materials, and other resources needed for modern broadcasting.

Speaking on the development, Voice of Grand Kru Station Manager James KarwaySuah praised Saygbe for responding to the station’s needs and described the intervention as an important contribution to the growth of community broadcasting in Grand Kru.

Suah expressed appreciation to Saygbe for supporting the station at a time when improved infrastructure and reliable internet connectivity are increasingly important to modern journalism.

He said the donation will not only improve the comfort of journalists and staff but will also strengthen the station’s ability to gather, process, and disseminate information to residents across the county.

The station manager further appealed to other individuals, organizations, and well-wishers to follow Saygbe’s example by supporting community media institutions.

According to Suah, stronger community media means greater access to information for citizens, particularly those living in areas where other communication platforms may not be readily accessible.

The donation represents more than an upgrade to the station’s physical facilities. It signals a shift toward a more technologically equipped community radio operation.

After years of working with limited cooling and internet infrastructure, Voice of Grand Kru now has two critical additions that could improve both staff welfare and the station’s day-to-day broadcasting capabilities.
