Oh! Gbao, how I love to see you rise!
I woke up this morning feeling your pains,
I woke up this morning seeing not your gains.
I woke up this morning sensing your frustration,
I woke up this morning seeing you in isolation.
I woke up this morning feeling extremely sad,
I woke up this morning feeling absolutely bad.
I woke up this morning feeling politically mad;
I share your loneliness and your worries!
Oh! My dear people of the Gbao land!
Why aren’t you part of the marching band?
Why are you made to walk on sinking sand?
Why are you often sitting on the political fence?
Why aren’t you part of the great political dance?
Why are you reduced to the size of a needle?
Why are you fruitlessly glued to the middle?
Why are you made to appear politically little?
Why must they deny you your political plums?
Why must they keep you confined to the slums?
Why must they assign you to beat their drums?
I’m left to wonder, wonder, and just wonder!
At what point will your political reward come?
At what point will power water your flowers?
At what point will you reap your deserved fruits?
At what point will you wear the political suits?
At what point will they bring you on board?
At what point will you enter the political door?
At what point will you depart from the cold floor?
At what point will genuine political opportunities flow?
At what point will they consider your future?
At what point will they respect your culture?
Oh! Gbao, how I love to see you rise!
Your sons and daughters are not recognized,
Your sons and daughters are heavily marginalized,
Your sons and daughters are often ostracized.
Your sons and daughters have no political jobs,
Your sons and daughters are treated like mobs.
Your sons and daughters are always at the rear,
Your sons and daughters are not in active gear.
Your sons and daughters are absent from public space,
Your sons and daughters lack political grace.
Your sons and daughters have no rightful political place.
Let Gbao be given its fair share!
Let Gbao receive its fair political care.
Let Gbao get its share of the Rescue bread,
Let Gbao not be treated as though it were dead.
Let Gbao live peacefully and happily instead.
Let it be known that Gbao deserves better,
Let it be known that Gbao can write a letter.
Let it be known that Gbao has great men,
Let it be known that Gbao has many women.
Let it be known that Gbao is a political force,
Let it be known that Gbao is not without a voice.
Let it be known that Gbao is part of the nation,
Let it be known that Gbao deserves its own allocation!
The forefathers are very, very mad!
They’re mad seeing their children sitting sadly,
They’re mad seeing their children treated badly.
They’re mad seeing their children neglected,
They’re mad seeing their children rejected.
They’re mad seeing their children frustrated,
They’re mad seeing their children forgotten.
May Boakai-Koung look Gbao in the face,
May Boakai-Koung give Gbao its rightful place.
May Boakai-Koung put Gbao in the race,
May Boakai-Koung do justice to its people.
May Boakai-Koung never let the people down,
May Boakai-Koung give the people their crown.
May Boakai-Koung never make them look like clowns,
May Boakai-Koung put the people in the boat,
May Boakai-Koung let them wear their rightful coats.
Truly, I love to see Gbao politically rise!
