Phebe Hospital HIV Services Questioned
By Samuel Flomo, Jr.
Authorities at the National AIDS Commission (NAC) have conducted a one-day working visit to the compound of Phebe Hospital in Suakoko, Bong County.
The visit was part of the Commission’s ongoing efforts to strengthen HIV/AIDS response services across the country.
It primarily questioned the HIV/AIDS status of the hospital.
The visit brought together health officials, hospital administrators, and representatives from the Commission. The visitors assessed the delivery of HIV-related healthcare services at key medical facilities in the county.
NAC Chairperson, Dr. Cecelia J. Nuta, said the visit was to gather first-hand information on how HIV/AIDS services are being implemented at both Phebe Hospital and C.B. Dunbar Comprehensive Hospital.
Dr. Nuta said, the assessment will help the Commission identify operational gaps, challenges, and achievements within the HIV response system, especially in rural health settings.
She further said, special attention is being given to the Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) centers, where patients living with HIV/AIDS receive treatment, care and support services.
“We are engaging with staff to better understand the treatment and care services being provided to people living with HIV/AIDS at both health facilities.”
NAC continues to play a key role in coordinating the national HIV/AIDS response by linking government institutions, development partners and civil society organizations.
The Commission also works to reduce stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS while promoting access to quality healthcare services nationwide.
The Bong County Health Officer, the Medical Director of Phebe Hospital, and Commissioners of the NAC were present, and actively participated in the discussions held during the visit.
The assessment visit is expected to improve coordination and stronger health systems that will enhance HIV/AIDS service in the country.
