The Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs is working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to recall over 50 Foreign Service Officials who were deployed around the world under “unclear circumstances”. This was disclosed by Montserrado County Senator, Abraham Darius Dillon, following a meeting on Tuesday July 16, 2024, between the Senate’s Committee on Foreign Affairs and authorities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Meeting, according to Senator Dillon, was predicated upon a communication presented by Senators Saah H. Joseph of Montserrado County and Nathaniel McGill of Margibi County to the Plenary of the Liberian Senate. Senator Dillion, who wrote on his social media page said, the Committee was informed about ongoing efforts to bring back over 50 Officials/Employees that were deployed at various Liberian Diplomatic Missions around the world between July 26 and July 27, 2023″. However, he disclosed that the process is expected to begin “within two weeks”. During the meeting, Senator Dillon noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that some of those deployed under said “unclear circumstances” did not meet the benchmarks to serve as Foreign Service Officials and that there may be room to re-evaluate some for possible, proper employment where applicable. “Based on that, the Committee on Foreign Affairs will continue to monitor this process and assist the Ministry in the effort to ensure justice and fair play regarding this matter,” Senator Dillon assured. Members of the Committee on Foreign Affairs include Sen. Abraham Darius Dillon, Sen. Saah H. Joseph, Sen. Albert T. Chie, Sen. Gbehzongar M. Findley and Sen.Edwin Melvin Snowe as well as Sen. Amara M. Konneh among others.
