Elders, specifically from the Zor Chiefdom in Nimba County, have named Senator Samuel Gongben Kogar, the ‘new Godfather the county.
They described the title as a symbolic traditional recognition following the death of Senator Prince Yormie Johnson.
Paramount Chief, Joseph Yealue Yormie, led the naming ceremony during a ‘traditional’ gathering in Zor-Zualy on Tuesday, July 28, where he said, the elders had “unanimously chosen Kogar to assume the symbolic role.”
Chief Yormie urged Kogar to remain focused on his responsibilities despite criticism, while presenting him with kola nuts, and a white chicken as traditional symbols of acceptance, and respect.
While accepting the honor, Sen. Kogar expressed gratitude to the traditional leaders, and citizens for the confidence they had placed in him.
He described the recognition as a “great honor.”
Kogar meanwhile, pledged to continue serving all Nimbaians with humility, fairness, and dedication, stressing that the county’s future depends on unity, mutual respect, and inclusive development.
He also called on Nimbaians to embrace reconciliation, peace, and unity.
Kogar asked for forgiveness from anyone he may have offended, saying: “It is time for the county to move forward together.”
