MYS Launches LRD 30,000 Business Grant Initiative The Ministry of Youth & Sports has announced a nationwide business empowerment initiative aimed at supporting market women, petty traders, hustling youth, and aspiring entrepreneurs with financial assistance and business development services.

The announcement was made through the Ministry’s official Facebook page, where it invited eligible Liberians to apply for a program designed to transform small businesses into sustainable enterprises. The Ministry emphasized that every successful business begins with one bold step, encouraging entrepreneurs to take advantage of the opportunity.

Under the initiative, successful applicants will receive a Liberian Dollar (LRD) 30,000 Business Grant to invest in their businesses. In addition to the financial support, beneficiaries will participate in free business training and coaching, receive mentorship from experienced entrepreneurs, gain access to networking opportunities, and benefit from business growth support aimed at improving the long-term sustainability of their enterprises.

Registration officially began on August 1, 2026, at Youth Centers across Liberia.

The initiative comes at a time when many small-scale businesses continue to face challenges, including limited access to financing, inadequate business management skills, and restricted market opportunities. For many market women and petty traders, obtaining affordable capital remains one of the greatest barriers to expanding inventory, improving product quality, or increasing daily sales.

By combining financial assistance with practical entrepreneurship training and mentorship, the Ministry’s program seeks to address both the financial and knowledge gaps that often hinder the growth of small businesses. Rather than providing funding alone, the initiative is designed to equip participants with the skills needed to manage resources effectively, make informed business decisions, and build resilient enterprises.

The program also has the potential to contribute to broader economic development. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) play a significant role in Liberia’s economy by creating jobs, supporting household incomes, and driving local commerce. Empowering entrepreneurs at the grassroots level can stimulate economic activity within communities, increase self-employment opportunities, and strengthen local markets.
