National AIDS Commission Launches HIV Sustainability Roadmap
The National AIDS Commission of Liberia (NAC) has launched a national dialogue on HIV sustainability roadmap in Liberia. Speaking at the launch of the ceremony on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at the Monrovia City Hall, the Chairperson of NAC, Cecelia J. Nuta, stated that it is vital to develop national roadmap to set out Liberia sustainability strategies and actions to help achieve goals related to HIV/AIDS Programs in the country. Madam Nuta noted that the new HIV infections will significantly increase the long-term fiscal burden for countries and further establish sustainability challenges. “As the country works towards achieving universal health coverage and contributing to the global effort to end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030, there is a need to prioritize the development of a country tailored sustainability roadmap to guide and support the country and partners to reach the 2030 target and beyond,” she added. Madam Nuta stressed that such a roadmap will ensure continuous delivery of essential HIV prevention treatment and care services especially when Liberia HIV response is largely donor driven. She noted that it will also optimize resource allocation for efficiency and cost effectiveness as well as maximize existing investments through integrated HIV programs into the health system strengthening practices. She maintained that to enhance the resilience and capacity of Liberia National Health System to HIV as well as other public health threats, there is a need to foster collaboration across sectors, to enhance health, education, social welfare and economic development. Madam Nuta emphasized that alignment with national, regional and global stakeholders shared vision should be prioritized in combating HIV/AIDS. The NAC head indicated that the best scientific evidence and technical knowledge and the promotion of comprehensive responses to HIV/AIDS should be integrated to prevent, treat, care and support people living with HIV. The launch was embraced by stakeholders in the sector, partners and government officials including members of civil society organizations. LINA
