MoT Launches Codified Regulation
The Codified Regulations consist of the ministry’s administrative regulations and hazardous substances from every sector linked to the its operations.
The Ministry of Transport (MoT) has officially signed and launched its newly prepared ‘Administrative Regulation’ 2025, while reinforcing the transportation fares structure that was launched in August, 2024.
The launch is in an effort to enhance safety and order in the transport sector.
Accordingly, the ministry has maintained that its previous fares remained unchanged based on the threshold of US$0.50 and L$100, which has remained largely unaffected by the fluctuation in petroleum products (gasoline and fuel) prices.
At the launching ceremony on Monday, May 5, 2025, in Monrovia, Transport Minister, Sirleaf R. Tyler, admonished all commercial drivers, passengers and the general public to abide by the transport fares.
The fares were published in August, 2024, insisting that they are still in effect.
“Even though gasoline and fuel prices have slightly changed, those changes are not big enough to change the current fare structure,” Tyler said.
He said after reviewing the situation, the ministry has decided not to update the fares at this time, stating: “All commercial drivers must follow the approved fares, anything on the contrary, we will apply the law.”
“Inspectors from the ministry, along with law enforcement authorities will continue checking to ensure no one will over charge the official fares. Passengers who are overcharged or treated unfairly are asked to report such cases by calling the ministry’s hotline or report the license plate number(s) of said vehicle,” Tyler told a news conference.
Mr. Tyler, has meanwhile assured the public that the ministry remained committed to making transport fares affordable for everyone, adding: “If there should be any major changes in the petroleum prices in the future, the ministry will work with transport groups and the public to review the fares accordingly.”
In a related development, the ministry has introduced its Codified Administrative Regulations to improved safety and order in the transport sector.
The Codified Administrative Regulations consist of all of the ministry’s administrative regulations, and hazardous substances from every sector linked to the ministry’s operations.
