A tragic case of suspected domestic violence has left a community in shock after a woman died reportedly from injuries she sustained at the hands of her husband during an assault.

The incident is reported in Kollietawola on the outskirts of Gbarnga, Bong County.

The deceased, Lorpu Kollie, reportedly suffered injuries during the incident, and was rushed to a clinic in Gbarnga for emergency treatment. Despite efforts by medical personnel, she later died.

Officers of the Liberia National Police (LNP) in Bong County have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Madam Kollie’s death.

The deceased’s daughter, Fanta Kamara, told reporters that her stepfather, Richard Denteh, a security officer, frequently argued with her mother, particularly over money.

According to Fanta, the latest dispute occurred on Saturday, July 4, 2026, after Denteh allegedly entrusted Lorpu with money for safekeeping.

She claimed that her mother later removed L$1,500 from the money, and instructed her to buy a puppy.

Fanta said, when Denteh later requested for the money, the missing amount sparked a heated argument to the extent that he “unmercifully beat and wounded my mother until she died.”

She further claimed that the confrontation turned violent at about 6: p.m., during which Denteh assaulted “my mother and stomped on her stomach.”

Fanta said, she tried to intervene, but was locked inside a room with her mother as Denteh’s assault continued.

Madam Lorpu Kollie was later taken to a medical facility in Gbarnga, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Police have detained suspect Richard Denteh, as investigators continue with gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.

The case remains under active investigation.

The incident has meanwhile, sparked outrage among residents of Kollietawola, and renewed calls for stronger action against domestic violence and accountability for anyone found responsible under the law.
