To enhance Liberia’s fire safety standards, a two-member delegation from the Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS), led by Director Colonel G. Warsuwah Barvoul, participated in Intersec 2025 in Dubai, a leading global exhibition focusing on fire protection, safety, and prevention. The delegation included Deputy Director for Operations Colonel P. Edwin Tisdell and Lieutenant Colonel Lemuel Hne Harris, who were honored guests of the Dubai Civil Defence (DCD). This event served as a platform for fostering international partnerships to improve fire safety measures worldwide. During the exhibition, the DCD launched its ambitious “One Billion Readiness Initiative,” a novel global campaign aimed at educating one billion people on fire safety and prevention by 2027. This initiative reflects Dubai’s commitment to enhancing global fire protection and readiness, backed by 34 countries and major firefighting organizations. The program aligns with the UAE’s vision of promoting safety and security through international collaboration. Colonel Tisdell represented Liberia and addressed an international audience, elaborating on the challenges LNFS faces in fire safety and response operations. He emphasized the critical need for international partnerships to bolster Liberia’s fire safety capabilities and highlighted the country’s potential role in raising fire safety awareness both locally and across Africa. The LNFS team also toured advanced firefighting facilities operated by the DCD, including a state-of-the-art land-based fire station and the world’s first fire station on water. These visits provided the delegation with vital insights into modern firefighting technologies and infrastructure, which will be crucial for enhancing Liberia’s fire service. A significant outcome of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between LNFS and DCD, aimed at strengthening Liberia’s fire safety operations. Signed by Colonel Tisdell and Major General Rashid Thani Al Matrooshi, the DCD’s Director General, this partnership will deliver essential resources and expertise to Liberia. It also includes the donation of fire engines, slated for delivery in the coming months, to enhance LNFS’s emergency response capabilities. Additionally, DCD has committed to sending a delegation to Liberia to help smoothly integrate the donated fire engines into LNFS operations. This donation is expected to greatly improve Liberia’s ability to respond to fire-related emergencies across the nation. The DCD’s involvement in global fire safety initiatives, particularly the 1 Billion Readiness Initiative, highlights the importance of international collaboration in tackling fire hazards, especially in developing nations like Liberia. The Hope Convoys project, a key aspect of this initiative, aims to support countries like Liberia by providing fire safety equipment and establishing fire stations, enhancing emergency preparedness and response. Liberia’s participation in Intersec 2025 is a pivotal moment. The insights gained will contribute significantly to the modernization and operational capacity of the LNFS. By establishing strong partnerships with global fire safety leaders, Liberia is positioning itself to effectively address the growing demands of fire prevention and emergency responses in an increasingly complex environment. As Liberia faces ongoing challenges in firefighting and disaster response, collaboration with the Dubai Civil Defence and other international fire safety organizations will be crucial for achieving long-term improvements. The knowledge gained and relationships formed at Intersec 2025 will strengthen Liberia’s fire safety infrastructure, ensuring a safer future for all its citizens. The LNFS’s presence at Intersec 2025 is a significant milestone in Liberia’s commitment to advancing fire safety and emergency preparedness. Through continued collaboration with DCD and other global partners, Liberia is set to enhance its fire safety standards, improving its emergency responses and the overall safety of its people. With the support of international partners and a focus on continuous improvement, the future of firefighting in Liberia looks promising.
