LDEA Arrests Nigerian National with 365.1 Grams Of Cocaine

On November 29, 2024, at approximately 9:00 AM, the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), Grand Cape Mount County Detachment, in collaboration with Border Operation-17, arrested a Nigerian national, Olanrewaju Adeleye, aged 48. The arrest occurred during a routine search at the Bo Waterside Port of Entry, Gate 1. The suspect, who was transiting through Liberia from Guinea en route to Nigeria, was found in possession of three tubes and two transparent plastic packets containing a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine. The total weight of the substance was 365.1 grams. The drugs were concealed in the suspect’s underwear and cap at the time of his arrest.  The estimated street value of the confiscated substance is USD $19,715.40, equivalent to LRD 3,745,926.00. Hence, suspect Adeleye is currently under investigation for illegal possession of unlicensed controlled drugs or substances, in violation of Sections 14.89 and 14.85 of the 2023 Drugs Law (as amended). Additionally, the suspect is charged under Sections 10.4 and 10.2 of the Penal Law of Liberia. Upon completion of the investigation, he will be forwarded to the Grand Cape Mount Magisterial Court for legal proceedings in accordance with Liberian law. The LDEA commends the vigilance and commitment of its Grand Cape Mount County officers and the joint efforts with Border Operation-17 in maintaining border security and combating drug trafficking. This operation highlights the importance of routine inspections and coordinated efforts in intercepting illegal substances and ensuring public safety. The LDEA reiterates its zero-tolerance stance on drug trafficking and urges citizens to support its efforts by reporting suspicious activities to authorities.
