Bong County Senator Johnny K. Kpehe, has complained of his reduced financial support to residents, and constituents.
Kpehe blames the reduction largely to a “decline in my personal business activities I became a senator.”
He said, his current financial situation is different from the period when he was actively engaged in business, and be able to provide money to people, who approached him for assistance.
Kpehe spoke during a public gathering in Gbarnga, Bong County, on Saturday, September 19, as he respond to concerns from some residents, who questioned why he was no longer providing financial assistance as frequently as he reportedly did in the past?
“A couple of times I see people telling me, J, my man, you used to come here, and gave people money, but this time, you are not doing it.”
He explained how his business activities, and political responsibilities are now separated, noting: “My business is no longer operating in the same manner as before, because of my job at the senate with very little financial benefit contrary to what people think. I often told them now my business, and myself don’t have any relationship. My business is behind me discussing itself, and I’m here discussing my politics. I’ve got issues…” Kpehe further argued that serving as a senator does not provide the kind of personal financial resources that some constituents may expect, suggesting that his ability to make direct financial contributions has been affected since taking office as a senator.
His comments come amid questions from some residents concerning his leadership, and public engagement since he was elected to the senate.
Some residents have publicly raised concerns about Kpehe’s limited visibility, and engagement with constituents, while others have questioned the extent to which campaign-era commitments have been addressed.
He was elected as a senator for Bong County in 2023.
Kpehe has previously faced public expectations from constituents seeking assistance with personal, community, and development-related needs.
His latest comments appear to offer an explanation for why he has reduced direct financial assistance, distinguishing his personal business resources from the responsibilities, and resources associated with his legislative position.
