A Liberian family based in the United States has dedicated an US$8,000 children’s school in Peter Kollie Town, Jorquelleh District Two, Bong County, in an effort to improve access to education for children in underserved communities.

Mr. and Mrs. George Kollie, together with members of the Kollie family, funded the construction and furnishing of the school, which is expected to provide free education to children from Peter Kollie Town and surrounding communities.

The initiative seeks to address educational challenges faced by children who have struggled to attend school, including those who previously traveled long distances to access classroom facilities.

Beyond constructing the school, the family has pledged to pay teachers’ salaries and collaborate with community residents to provide meals for students.

The commitment is intended to help sustain the institution and support children throughout their learning experience. As part of the initiative, the family distributed educational materials, including bookbags, exercise books, pencils, and erasers, to approximately 60 children expected to benefit from the facility. The provision of these supplies is expected to ease some of the financial burden on parents and help students begin their education with essential learning materials. Shadrach Saturday Kollie, who spoke through the family’s representative said, the family disclosed that the project was inspired by appeals from residents during a visit to Peter Kollie Town for a family burial. The appeals reportedly highlighted the need for improved educational opportunities, prompting the family to establish a school that would bring learning closer to children in the area. In addition to the educational project, the Kollie family donated a prayer house to Grace Baptist Church in Gbarnga to support Christian worship, evangelism, and the spread of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The donation is expected to strengthen the church’s religious activities and provide additional space for worship and community engagement.

Residents of the beneficiary communities and members of Grace Baptist Church welcomed the donations and pledged to maintain the facilities to ensure they serve their intended purposes.

The school and prayer house represent the family’s contribution to education, community development, and Christian evangelism in Bong County.

The initiative also highlights the role of private individuals and families in supporting local development, particularly in communities where access to educational facilities remains a challenge.

With the school expected to serve approximately 60 children, residents will now have an opportunity to access educational services closer to home.
