Residents of Dementa Community in Gbarnga, Bong County, District #2, have benefited from ‘free health’ screenings, and body analysis.
The exercise was done through the Vital-Care Initiative, a community-based health outreach led by returning Doctor of Pharmacy, Elijah Dennis.
The initiative is to improve access to basic health assessments, particularly for residents, who face financial difficulties accessing similar services at nearby health facilities.
The outreach is being conducted at Dementa Public School, where community members turned out en-masse and assessed their health conditions. They received basic health-related information.
Among the services provided are blood pressure and diabetes screenings, which identified potential health concerns, and encouraged individuals to seek further medical evaluation when necessary.
The initiative also offers body analysis covering weight, body fat, body mass index (BMI), metabolic age, subcutaneous fat, visceral fat, and water requirements.
These assessments helped participants better understand aspects of their health, and recognize the importance of regular monitoring and healthy lifestyle choices.
For residents who may not routinely undergo health screenings due to financial constraints, the free services provided an opportunity to obtain basic health information without paying for the assessments.
The Dementa exercise represents the second community-based outreach the Vital-Care Initiative has conducted.
The first exercise was held in Kollieta-Wolah, where several residents also benefited from the ‘free health’ services.
The expansion reflects the Initiative continued effort to reach communities where access to preventive health assessments have remained limited.
