The decision came after blotched C-section left woman paralyzed, funds victim’s overseas treatment.
The situation aroused amid public criticism of the John F. Kennedy (JFK) Memorial Medical Center over the case of 23-year-old Jestina Wormu.
Jestina was left paralyzed following a blotched cesarean section (C-section) procedure, which Spoon Network obtained details of corrective measures the hospital says, it has taken to address the incident, and strengthen patient safety protocols.
Henceforth, JFK has implemented accountability measures, and reviewed patient care procedures following the April surgery that resulted in Jestina’s suffering a spinal cord injury.
Hospital authorities disclosed that an internal investigation found repeated failed anesthesia attempts contributed to the injury during the procedure.
Following the findings, three nurse anesthetists were suspended, the matter was referred to the hospital’s Ethics Committee, and specialized neurosurgical care was initiated.
JFK said, it has covered all of Jestina’s medical expenses, transferred her to a private ward, and later facilitated her transfer to Yashoda Hospitals in India, where she is reportedly receiving advanced treatment, including stem cell therapy, and rehabilitation.
The hospital said, it continues to bear the full cost of her treatment as efforts remain focused on her recovery.
