The Civil Society Network of Liberia (CSNL) strongly calls for the immediate recusal of Criminal Court “C” Judge, Cllr. A. Blamo Dixon from the case involving Cllr. Johnny Momoh and his former Fiancée’ Madam Marie Nellon. The institution’s call is predicated on an investigation conducted, which uncovers that Cllr. Dixon’s daughter is the current fiancée of Cllr. Jonny Momoh. Cllr. Dixon’s reported connection to Cllr. Momoh amounts to conflict of interest, and has the propensity to prejudice the ruling of the case. This fundamental practice in law, relating to conflict of interest is something that Cllr. Blamo Dixon swore to defend and protect. Recently, the Civil Society Network of Liberia welcomes the indictment of Cllr. Johnny Momoh for the crimes of theft of Property, Burglary and criminal conspiracy following a case filed against him by Madam Marie Nellon. Moreover, the Civil society Network of Liberia calls for a speedy and impartial trial of the case, as we are determined to closely follow the case at the court, like we have been doing since the case was filed. Giving the importance that the CSNL places on the protection of human rights, gender protection and justice, we will continue to advocate for these societal values. It can be recalled that on April 8, 2023, Cllr. Momoh was arrested for the crimes of Theft of property for allegedly conspiring with Johnny Yorvors, Augustine Sellay, Patricia Miatta Kamara and Moses Miller, to steal cash and valuable properties in the amount of US$575,385.00 and LRD$80,000.00 that got allegedly missing from Madam Marie Nellon when he threw her belongings out of the house in her absence. As a pro-democracy group that believes in justice, we see the indictment against Cllr. Momoh and others as the beginning of deserved justice for Madam Nellon. The Civil Society Network of Liberia is of the conviction that the indictment of Theft of Property, Burglary and criminal conspiracy, against Cllr. Momoh and others is justifiable, as his reckless and irresponsible action led to Madam Nellon to lose several of her belongings; including US$500,000 worth of jewelries; clothes and money amounting to US$75,387; 3,000 Euros and CF$5,000. Cllr. Momoh’s indictment is a beginning of the relief that Madam Marie Nellon seeks from the court. While the Civil Society Network of Liberia commends Criminal Court C for the indictment against Cllr. Momoh, we reiterate that Cllr. Blamo Dixon would be conflicted were him allowed to preside over the case. Cllr. Momoh knowingly violated several sections of the Statutory Laws of Liberia, relating to Theft of Property, Burglary and Criminal Conspiracy. At such, we need an impartial and fair hearing of the case in the dispensation of justice.
