The Liberian National Bar Association has unanimously adopted and passed a Resolution mandating the leadership to take legal appropriate action against a Liberian-own Construction Company, GeosKope Limited for defaulting and failing to live up to contractor agreement signed with the LNBA in the amount of one Hundred and Seventy United States Dollars (USD$170,000).

The LNBA took the decisive decision on Saturday night November 30, 2024 in the City of Ganta, Nimba during its National Convention 2024which was held at the WuoGarbeTarpppia Intellectual Hall, Peace Empire, at which time the Bar noted that the Liberian-owned company after several meetings and negotiation failed to live up to the contractor agreement. ‘’Now therefore, the LNBA sitting at it 2024 National Annual Convention after deliberation on the matters under consideration, hereby resolve as follow; that the LNBA leadership be mandated and is mandated to filed the appropriate legal action against GeosKope Construction Company Limited for relearning , refusing and failing to abide by the terms of the contract, having receive USD170,000 which resulted to a breach and subsequent termination of the contract’’ the resolution noted. The Liberian-own Construction Company, GeosKope Limited some years back signed a contractor Agreement with the Liberian National Bar Association for the completion of the first floor of its multi-purpose National Headquarter in lower Margibi County, Tower Hill. However, the company allegedly defaulted and failed to live up to contractor agreement signed with the LNBA in the amount of one Hundred and Seventy United States Dollars (USD$170,000). Based on the company failure, the LNBA and a Liberian-owned company, JES Engineering, signed an Exchange of Notes Agreement, worth US$121,000, for the completion of the first-floor of the Association’s four-story multipurpose headquarters along the Tower Hill Community, Roberts field Highway. The agreement was signed on Tuesday, October 15, by the LNBA’s President Sylvester D. Rennie and the General Manager of JES, Mr. Joseph S. Dennis, in the presence of the LNBA’s project manager, Cllr. Bobby Livingstone. The new company is currently executing the project. Recently, a touring of the facility was done by the leadership to ensure its usable in January. The Resolution further urged that the members of the LNBA endeavor to uphold the ethic of the legal profession in ensuring access to justice and in the interest to justice. Accordingly, the Resolution curved that the LNBA will effectively utilize the mechanisms in the Civil Procedure Law to aid in litigation process.  ‘’ The LNBA be mandated to ensure that the Alternative Dispute Resolution and Pro-bono Legal Aid Services by developing a Regulatory Framework and provide the necessary training to practitioners and stakeholders on the ADR process. That the LNBA take the lead in the popularization of the ADR Mechanism for acceptance in Liberia. That in the fate of transparency and accountability, and to exercise financial probity a fiscal budget of 2025 must be submitted to the National Executive Council of the LNBA prior to the induction of the new corps of officials,’’ the resolution concluded. Meanwhile, speaking to reporters briefly following the reading of the Resolution and adjournment, the outgoing President of the Liberian National Bar Association, Cllr. Sylvester D. Rennie, extolled the body for the adoption of the resolution and their resilience during the voting process. He extolled and congratulated the newly elected-leadership but cautioned that they take the Bar beyond where they met it, adding that the resolution adopted to prosecute GeoKrop for default is in the hands or left with the new leadership to take the appropriate legal action ‘’ As the matter of fact, GeoKope was able to default following several meetings with them as stated in our report. They did not do the work; condition precedent for us to go after them to tell us why they did not do the work and defaulted. Well, the total amount we paid GeoKope was one hundred and seventy thousand United States Dollars (US170,000),’’ he concluded.
