A new chapter in Grandcess’ community development, and cultural preservation efforts unfolded with the official dedication of the Mother Theresa Wrehdi Cephas Tourist Center, and the handover of a brand-new marching band valued at US$1,600.
The latest put renewed attention on the role of citizens in transforming their communities.
The ceremony, held in Grandcess, brought together local authorities, community leaders, and other stakeholders with speakers not only to celebrate the contributions of Mother Theresa Wrehdi Cephas, but also to challenge government, and citizens to ensure that newly completed community projects are properly protected, and utilized.
The tourist center is expected to provide a focal point for visitors while promoting Grandcess’ cultural heritage, history, and natural attractions.
But beyond the ribbon-cutting, and celebrations, community leaders have meanwhile, called for concrete measures to ensure that the facility does not become another public structure left without adequate security, staffing, or maintenance.
Reverend/Father Francis D. Topor, II, described the occasion as “another historic and important day for the City of Grandcess.”
Fr. Topor praised Mother Theresa Wrehdi Cephas for years of financial, material, and spiritual support to the Grandcess community.
He said, her continued involvement in community activities has allowed her voice, and contributions to remain visible despite living outside the country.
Fr. Topor: “The dedication of the tourist center represents more than the opening of a facility, it is an opportunity for the people of Grandcess to celebrate, and preserve the legacy of one of their own.
He subsequently urged residents to use the center responsibly, and protect it from misuse, and neglect.
Emmanuel Wiefue, who represented the family of Mother Theresa Wrehdi Cephas, formally handed over a brand-new marching band to the people of Grandcess through City Mayor Augustine Klah.
Wiefue said, the US$1,600 donation came after the community identified the need for a marching band.
He described the contribution as part of Mother Theresa’s continuing commitment to her hometown.
He urged the people of Grandcess to take ownership of the equipment, and ensure its proper use, and maintenance.
Mayor Augustine Klah, commended Mother Theresa Wrehdi Cephas for the gesture, which he described as timely, and beneficial to the community.
Klah said, the donation would provide a boost to Grandcess, particularly in cultural activities, and community events, while assuring that Mother Theresa’s contribution would remain part of the community’s memory.
Commissioner Charlie welcomed the tourist center, and the marching band.
He called on other well-meaning citizens in the United States, and other parts of the world to emulate Mother Theresa Wrehdi Cephas by investing in the development of Grandcess, and Grand Kru County.
As residents celebrate the contribution of one of their own, the challenge now rests with the authorities, and community to ensure that the investment is protected, and that Grandcess gets lasting value from it.
