A major healthcare facility in Gbarnga-Siaquelleh, Electoral District #4, Bong County, now lies in an overgrown green grass and vegetation.
For that, residents’ anxiety for the clinic to be dedicated, and opened for public use has wear away.
The situation has sparked growing frustration among the anxious waiting locals, who say, the prolonged delay has left a potentially important health facility sitting largely unused while people continue to face difficulties accessing basic medical services.
Some residents told journalists that they have repeatedly cleaned the area around the facility, but said, maintaining the compound has become increasingly difficult as the building remains without regular public use and proper maintenance.
The continued delay is particularly concerning, because Gbarnga-Siaquelleh is a heavily populated community.
They questioned why a completed health facility in their own town remains unavailable as some of the inhabitants now travel elsewhere whenever they get sick.
For many, the most serious concern involves pregnant women, and other people requiring timely medical care.
They said, women in need of antenatal services, and other essential healthcare must travel to a faraway Garmue Town to seek treatment.
Residents described the situation as an unnecessary burden, particularly for people, who may lack transportation or financial resources to make repeated trips to another community for healthcare.
The construction of the facility reportedly began in 2017, under the leadership of former Representative Lester Mulbah Paye.
However, years after construction commenced, residents are still waiting for the facility to officially become operational.
Meanwhile, residents have called on Bong County authorities, and health officials to provide a clear timeline to open the facility.
