Gbanken City Faces Growing Water Crisis

Residents of Gbanken City in District #1, Grand Kru County, have decried an increased difficulty accessing safe drinking water.

This follows concerns the city Mayor, Esther Plee raised.

Madam Plee highlighted that the city, which is divided into {about} five zones, is currently served by only two functional hand pumps.

She warned that this limited access has forced many residents to depend on unsafe water sources such as unprotected wells for their daily consumption.

According to the Mayor, at least four additional hand pumps in the city have become faulty, and in urgent need of rehabilitation.

She said, the situation has become a serious public health concern, particularly for children, who are most at risk of waterborne diseases.

Madam Plee meanwhile, appealed to the government, humanitarian agencies, and development partners to urgently intervene and repair the broken facilities, and construct new hand pumps to meet the growing demand for safe drinking water.
