A leaked communication has triggered growing controversy in Grand Kru County.

This followed claims that each of the statutory districts have been instructed to pay L$150,000 for the County Sport Meet, and the ruling Unity Party (UP) headquarters fund-raising rally.

Several district leaders alleged that the directive originated from county authorities under Superintendent Antoinette Wowlee Nimely, a claim Nimely has strongly denied.

The allegation was initially raised by Oratus Gmah, a son of the county. Gmah accused county officials of imposing an unauthorized levy on district administrators.

“This is nothing, but extortion disguised as county administration. You cannot force the already struggling communities to pay L$150,000 without clear justification.”

The handwriting communication, was stamped. It has circulated among chiefs and commissioners, prompting concerns about its legitimacy.

Gmah said, statutory districts, including Nyankunkpo, Jarkarkpo, Wakpo and Karkpo, have reportedly completed their payments.

Sources also confirmed that in Upper Bolloh, Warwleken, Doeswen, and Jlaktaken, local authorities have contributed funds believed to be connected to the Party fund-raising rally.

A traditional leader from Jarkarkpo said: “We paid, because we were told it was a county order. No one wanted to appear disobedient.”

A Warwleken resident added: “If you refused, they say you are against the county leadership. We paid to avoid trouble.”

But Supt Nimely has firmly denied any role in issuing such directive.

In her response to the allegation through her WhatsApp account, Supt. Nimely distanced the county administration from the payment’s request.

“This information is far from the truth. At no time did the county administration mandate any statutory district to make such payment.”

She further warned that any individual soliciting funds in the county’s name without authorization will face investigation.
