For today’s protest, the students had issued a 24-hour ultimatum to government to address their concerns, including the return of teachers to classrooms, improved learning facilities, and better conditions in MCSS schools.

Students of the Monrovia Consolidated School System (MCSS) have threatened to stage a mass protest in Monrovia.

The protest, according to information, will swamp all government-owned schools beginning Tuesday, today, October 20, if government fails to address the students’ concerns, and ensure the full and peaceful resumption of academic activities.

The students made the threat on Monday, October 19, during a press conference in Monrovia.

They meanwhile, issued the government a 24-hour ultimatum to address their concerns, including the return of teachers to classrooms, improved learning facilities, and better conditions in MCSS schools.

The ultimatum is expected to expire at 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

According to the students, they have exhausted ‘diplomatic’ efforts when they engaged relevant stakeholders in an attempt to resolve the issues affecting their education.

However, they said, their efforts have yielded no results, leaving them with the option of reverting to street protests to demand action from the government.

The students warned that they would take to the streets in large numbers if their concerns remain unaddressed.

They also expressed fears that the prolonged disruption of classes has caused them to fall behind their peers, who are attending private and faith-based schools.

MCSS continues to face an education crisis as teachers maintain their go-slow action over demands for improved welfare.

For that, the student today’s protest adds to growing pressure on the government to resolve the dispute, and restore normal academic activities in public schools.
