Fire Disaster Claims Five Lives
A harrowing fire disaster which unfolded in District #15, Montserrado County, has claimed the lives of five individuals, an incident that has left the country mourning. The fire broke out during the late evening hours of Sunday, 24 September, 2023 in a residential building, quickly engulfing the structure in flames. Tragically, despite the swift response of community dwellers, using buckets of water to quench the fire, five lives were lost in the blaze. The victims, including three adults and two children-all female, have left a community shaken by grief. It is believed that the biological mother of the late Angel Tokpah was one of the victims of the outbreak. State authorities are yet to release the names of the deceased pending notification from their families. The exact cause of the fire is under investigation, with initial reports suggesting, it may have been sparked by an electrical fault. The fire’s rapid spread is believed to have been exacerbated by flammable materials inside the building. Visiting the scene of this heartbreaking incident on Monday, 25 September 2023, was Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) Secretary General, Jefferson Tamba Koijee who described the passing of his compatriots as unfortunate.
“As a human being it makes me feel terrible-the loss of a whole family-it’s terrible”, Koijee remarked. He told reporters, his visit was a show of solidarity and sympathy to the bereaved families. He expressed hope that there would be no recurrence of such sorrowful happening in the country. It is hoped that community support would pour in for the affected families, with donations and offers of assistance to close family members and associates.
