The Bong County Office of the Ministry of Commerce has destroyed goods it clutched from businesses in Bong County.
The destroyed goods were hush-hush as expired.
The exercise followed the Ministry monthly routine disposal of expired and unwholesome goods as part of ongoing efforts to protect consumers, and ensure compliance with commercial standards.
The enforcement exercise brought together commerce officials, who disposed of various products seized or collected during routine inspections, and monitoring activities conducted in markets, shops, and other commercial areas in every part of Bong County.
During the disposal exercise, Bong County Senior Commerce Inspector, G. David Mentuah said, the destruction of expired, and unwholesome goods forms part of the office’s regular efforts to ensure that products that are no longer safe for consumption or sale do not return to the marketplace.
Mentuah said during the routine inspections, commerce officers identify products that have expired, been damaged, or are otherwise considered unfit for human consumption.
Such products, he said, were immediately removed from commercial premises, and placed under the appropriate process for disposal to prevent traders from returning them to the market.
He said, the latest exercise involved a variety of expired, and unwholesome products collected from different commercial locations.
Mentuah stressed the need for the enforcement activities, not only to remove unsafe products from the marketplace, but to encourage traders, and business owners to take greater responsibility for the goods they sell to consumers.
He urged business owners to regularly inspect their merchandise, and pay close attention to expiration dates, packaging, and the physical condition of products before displaying them for sale.
Mentuah cautioned traders against selling products that have expired or show signs of damage, noting that such practices can expose consumers to potential health risks, and undermine confidence in the local marketplace.
The monthly disposal exercise is meanwhile, expected to remain part of the county commerce office’s efforts to maintain order, and protect consumers.
