National Unity is the Best Path to Progress

0 2

No society can grow and prosper where genuine unity is hindered or suppressed.

Unity creates collective strength, and collective strength leads to growth and development. This is an undeniable reality.

Unity remains one of the most important foundations for meaningful progress in the social, political, cultural and economic spheres of society.

Any society that fails to grow and develop is often one in which unity has been weakened, where love has been suppressed and where hatred and other negative forces have been allowed to flourish.

In the absence of unity, a society, family, organization, or nation is likely to experience serious challenges.

For instance, people cease working together toward common goals, while tribalism, political hatred, division and misunderstanding continue to increase alarmingly.

Without unity, achieving progress becomes difficult. Roads, schools, hospitals, businesses, and national development projects may suffer because people yank in different directions, instead of working together for the common good.

When unity is lacking, leaders and citizens may constantly oppose one another in destructive ways, leading to confusion, unrest, violence and poor governance.

Disunity is a serious societal tragedy. It can create tension, increase crime, and even lead to conflict and war. Communities that do not trust one another often become unsafe and fearful.

Investors and businesses generally avoid unstable societies. As a result, unemployment rises, economic opportunities decline and poverty deepens.

In a divided society, citizens may stop seeing themselves as one people. Instead, they may focus primarily on tribe, region, religion, or political affiliation, thereby weakening the bonds that hold the nation together.

A united people are usually stronger, more peaceful, and better equipped to build a brighter future for themselves and future

generations. As the saying goes, “United we stand, divided we fall.”

It is time for us, as Liberians, to embrace the umbrella of unity and move forward from the shadows of war, division and poverty that continue to hold us back.

Together, we must work to protect our nation’s wealth and ensure that our gold, diamonds and other natural resources benefit the Liberian people rather than being exploited for the gain of others.

The future of Liberia depends not only on what we possess as a nation, but also on how united we are in pursuing a common vision of peace, prosperity and national development.
