The country’s maritime sector is positively resurging as the National Port Authority (NPA) hosts the 10th Meeting of the Port Management Association of West and Central Africa Harbor Masters and Port Facility Security Officers Network.

The three-day conference, which was held at the EJS Ministerial Complex, attracted over 150 delegates from 20 countries across West and Central Africa.

NPA Managing Director, Sekou Dukuly, underscored the significance of the country’s role in regional port security and integration.

He also advocated for the upgrading of Regional Maritime Integration (RMI) and other facilities at the various ports.

He added: “The country’s selection as host reflects growing confidence in its capabilities. “This is not just a meeting, but a message that the country is back, strong, reliable, and committed to regional progress.”

Dukuly highlighted the necessity for enhanced cooperation among port authorities and the development of a robust maritime workforce, which includes training more junior officers and fostering tighter inter-agency collaboration with the Coast Guard and Fisheries Authority.

His vision aims to position the country as a leader in maritime operations within the region.

This year’s conference theme: “Artificial Intelligence and Evolving Port Security Challenges,” emphasizes the pressing need for innovation and smarter systems to bolster safety and efficiency in port operations.

The discussions focused on the integration of advanced technologies to address contemporary challenges faced by maritime facilities.

Mr. Dukuly described the event as a “pivotal moment for the country’s maritime future, presenting an opportunity to solidify the country’s leadership role in redefining modern port operations across the sub-region.”

As the conference progressed, the focus remained on fostering dialogue, sharing best practices, and exploring innovative solutions to enhance the regional maritime landscape.

With this significant gathering, the country reaffirms its dedication to regional maritime integration, paving the way for stronger partnerships and a more secure future for ports across West and Central Africa.
