The vigilance of residents in Forpoh Gbarken has led to the arrest of a Nigerian national caught transporting suspected illegal narcotics.

The arrest highlighted growing community efforts to combat drug trafficking in Grand Kru County.

The suspect, identified only by the alias “Tiger Fire,” was apprehended on Wednesday evening by the Youth President of Forpoh Gbarken and several community members while traveling from Wehyonwen to Camp Spain.

Eyewitnesses alleged that the suspect was carrying a consignment of narcotic substances intended for delivery to the nearby community. During a search, residents reportedly recovered 10 strips of tramadol tablets, suspected marijuana, commonly referred to as Kush, and other substances believed to be illegal drugs.

Following the arrest, the Tiger Fire and the seized items were turned over to officers of the Joint Security at the Dweken Checkpoint for onward investigation by the appropriate authorities.

Residents described the arrest as a “victory for community policing.”

They say, locals have become increasingly determined to prevent the spread of illicit drugs, particularly among young people.

Community leaders also called on law enforcement agencies to intensify anti-drug operations in the county, and ensure that anyone found violating the drug laws is prosecuted in accordance with the law.
