Health Minister Dr. Louise M. Kpoto, has called for additional facilities at the ongoing Diagnostic Center in Gbalatuah, Zota District, Bong County.

Dr. Kpoto’s aim is to improve patient comfort, strengthen staff accommodation, and expand access to essential services when the facility becomes operational.

She made the recommendations during an inspection tour of the construction site, where she assessed the progress, and proposed improvements to make the center more accessible, and convenient for patients, and healthcare workers.

Among her recommendations was the construction of guest houses to accommodate patients, who may arrive late for treatment, and may require overnight stays before receiving diagnostic services.

Dr. Kpoto also proposed expanding staff quarters to provide accommodation for visiting foreign medical experts to support the operations.

Additionally, she recommended the installation of benches within the premises to provide comfort seating for patients, and visitors awaiting services.

Dr. Kpoto further called for the establishment of a one-stop center where patients, and their caregivers will purchase food, and other essential commodities while accessing medical services.

The proposed additions are to address practical challenges patients may encounter, particularly those traveling from distant communities for specialized medical examinations.

When completed, the Gbalatuah Diagnostic Center will provide laboratory examinations in microbiology and pathology, computed tomography (CT) scans, X-rays, and ultrasound examinations.

The facility is projected to serve approximately 75 to 100 patients daily, potentially reducing the difficulties patients face in accessing advanced diagnostic services.

The center is to strengthen Bong County healthcare infrastructure as well as improve access to diagnostic examinations that support disease identification, and treatment planning.

Dr. Kpoto was accompanied by the Assistant Minister for Administration, Richard Kollie, Senior Policy Advisor, Dr. Nowiah Gorpudolo-Dennis, Chief of Staff Pinky Bemanh Goll, and Assistant Chief of Staff Batu Fahnbullah.
