Cummings Lauds Weah For Peaceful Transfer Of Power

Mr. Alexander B. Cummings, Political Leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), has  former President George Manneh Weah for ensuring a peaceful transfer of power  to President Joseph Nyumah Boakia on Monday, January 22, 2024 in Monrovia He emphasized the importance of the event for Liberia and the broader region.  In a statement, Cummings remarked, “Liberians deserve to feel proud as the world witness a second peaceful transfer of power since the end of Liberia’s civil war. Today’s event offers hope to a region grappling with the threat of a return to undemocratic disruption and authoritarianism.” He acknowledged the challenges ahead in building robust democratic governing systems to fulfill the nation’s potential and developmental objectives. “Undoubtedly, we have a long way to go to build the quality of democratic governing systems to achieve the nation’s fullest potential and developmental objectives,” he stated. The ANC leader expressed gratitude to former President Weah for his leadership in institutionalizing the peaceful transfer of power, stating, “I thank President Weah for his important leadership towards this end.”

Cummings, who was present at the inauguration ceremony, extended congratulations to President Boakai for making history. “I was happy to be in attendance today and I congratulate President Joseph Nyumah Boakai for his historic inauguration.” Looking towards the future, Cummings called for a deepening of Liberia’s democratic culture under the new leadership. “Under a new leadership of our country, may we continue to move in the direction of deepening our democratic culture and providing hope to our people and the region,” he remarked. He called for self-reliance and national unity, stating, “There is nothing we cannot do for ourselves. After all, we are Liberians. May God continue to bless our nation.”
