In a historical tribute to one of the most influential traditional leaders, Cuttington University (CU) will officially declare September 23 as “Madam Suakoko Day.”
The formal declaration will coincide with a commemorative program that marked the 200th birth anniversary of the legendary figure, whose visionary leadership remains central to the identity of Bong County.
CU President, Dr. Romelle A. Horton, announced the upcoming milestone, which he described as an essential initiative to preserve the nation’s heritage.
The event will convene a diverse assembly of university leadership, national policymakers, traditional authorities, students, and local residents.
The main program will commence at 10: a.m. at the Epiphany Chapel on the main campus in Suakoko.
The university has meanwhile, designated the theme for the bicentennial program as: “Honoring Legacy, Inspiring Leadership: Celebrating Madam Suakoko’s Impact on Education, and Peacebuilding.”
The creation of Madam Suakoko Day, is designed to extend beyond mere tradition, but to confer honors on some distinguished persons.
The annual observance will serve as an active academic, and cultural framework, encouraging ongoing scholarship, public reflection, and national dialogue around her contributions to regional stability, land negotiation, and educational advancement.
Upon the conclusion of the chapel service, university executives, and visiting dignitaries, will gather at Madam Suakoko’s final resting place for a wreath-laying ceremony.
Horton has urged members of the public, and regional stakeholders to participate in this historic tribute to celebrate an enduring legacy of her astute leadership.
