Cllr. Dempster Brown, the suspended Chairman of the Independent National Commission on Human Rights (INCHR), was arrested on Wednesday, October 8.

Brown’s arrest followed allegation of ‘forgery against him.’

The development raises concerns about the integrity of the Commission, and its leadership.

Bailiffs from Criminal Court ‘C’ effected Brown’s arrest after a formal complaint was lodged by the INCHR itself.

The complaint indicated a profound breach of trust within the organization dedicated to advocate for human rights, and also hold violators accountable.

While the specific details of the forgery remain undisclosed, reports suggested how the allegation pertain to documents relevant to the Commission’s operations.

Though, he has denied the charge, Cllr. Brown is meanwhile, held at the Monrovia City Court, where he is undergoing initial proceedings.

This incident underscores the ongoing tensions within the INCHR, which has faced scrutiny in recent years regarding its effectiveness and governance.

As the situation unfolds, the Commission reputation is at stake, along with implications of human rights advocacy.

The allegations against Cllr. Brown are still subject to judicial review. As the case progresses, there are increasing calls for transparency, and accountability to ensure that justice is served.
