Normal business activities and free-flow of traffics are being disrupted in Grand Kru and Sinoe counties.
This is due to the recent collapsed of the Chengbetee Bridge that connects the two counties.
As such, residents of Grand Kru County have urgently appealed to government and county authorities to immediately repair the bridge, which has been severely damaged and rendered impassable.
The bridge serves as a critical link between Grand Kru and Sinoe counties. Its current condition has created challenges for residents, mainly the traders and ordinary travelers.
Vehicles and motorcycles, can no longer cross over the damaged bridge, thereby forcing people to rely on makeshift floaters to transport goods; a risky method that particularly endangers the lives of commuters, among them are women, children and the elderly.
“The bridge is more than just a local crossing; it connects our county to neighboring communities in Sinoe. Its collapse disrupts trade, transportation, and access to markets, schools, and health facilities. Our daily lives and livelihoods are under strained,” said Nelson S. Swen, a native of Gblebo City, and student leader at William V.S. Tubman University.
Local business owners report that trade between the two counties has slowed, with delays in transporting goods. The situation now affects income and market supply.
Farmers and traders face higher costs and safety risks, while attempting to move their products across the damaged site.
Community leaders have meanwhile, called for urgent repair or reconstruction of the bridge.
They said, the restoration of the bridge will not only improve safety and transportation within Grand Kru, but also revive economic activity and connectivity between the two counties.
Residents remain hopeful that the government will respond promptly to the pressing infrastructure issue, recognizing the Chengbetee Bridge as a vital lifeline for commercial activities and community well-being.
