The issues of gambling, associated with the use of illicit drugs by the younger generation, have claimed the attention of many.
As such, call for the banning of the use of the illicit acts has deepened.
Though the acts have reportedly been banned, a group under the banner HOPE Restored Foundation International, has joined the many voices through a petition to the legislature.
The Group have also called for the review and reinforcement of the gambling law, public smoking and subsequently total banning of shisha, kush, and tramadol as well as the mini slot (game) machines.
Maxson Kapakio, the Foundation Executive Director, who presented the petition has underscored the danger associated with the “bad habits,” especially to the younger generation.
Kapakio recalled how President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has taken action to ban shisha and tramadol through an executive order, he called for total ban through a legislation.
He added that with the danger the substances pose on society, “it is important that a law be passed to totally prohibit the use of illicit drugs in the society.”
Mr. Kapakio said, while he appreciates Pres. Boakai for the bold step, he maintained that it is important to legislate an action that would ensure that the substances are totally banned.
He recommended that a law be introduced to criminalized such behavior that whosoever is involved in such act, should face the full weight of the law.
Sinoe County District #1 Representative, Romeo Quioh, who received the petition, commended the group for the petition, and promised that the house will do its best to ensure that the future of the younger generation is prioritized.
