Bong Mines Hosp. Gets Incinerator, Solar Water System

The Ministry of Health (MoH) has commissioned a newly constructed incinerator, and a solar-powered water system at Bong Mines Hospital.

The two things will strengthen healthcare waste management, infection prevention, and access to reliable water.

The new incinerator is expected to provide the hospital with improved capacity to safely dispose of certain healthcare waste, while the solar-powered water system is intended to provide a more reliable water supply.

The facilities were dedicated during a ceremony attended by local authorities, health workers, hospital administrators, community leaders, and residents.

Health officials said, the projects are intended to improve the hospital environment, and address challenges that could affect the safety of patients, medical staff, and surrounding communities.

Martin J. Lawor, Technical Assistant to the Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of Health, praised health workers for continuing to provide services despite difficult working conditions. Lawor said, the dedication demonstrated the importance of sustained investment in infrastructure. He also praised Health Minister Louise M. Kpoto, “because her leadership is focused on improvements that would translate into practical benefits for Liberians.

The ministry’s efforts go beyond policy, and administration, with emphasis being placed on strengthening conditions in health facilities in the county.

Lawor further commended the medical director, and staff of Bong Mines Hospital for their commitment to serve the locals.

Paul Y.S. Quiminee, Environmental Director at the Ministry of Health said, the projects were part of efforts to address environmental, and occupational health challenges identified at health facilities. Quiminee disclosed how nationwide assessments of hospitals, clinics and health centers revealed areas requiring urgent intervention.

Proper disposal of medical waste, officials said, is essential to reduce infection risks, and protect communities around healthcare facilities.

Bong Mines Hospital Medical Director, Joy Cole, described the dedication as an important day for the hospital, the Bong County Health Team, and residents.

Dr. Cole welcomed the ministry’s support, and said the hospital had recorded several improvements in recent months, including the provision of a new vehicle, operational support, and improved availability of essential medicines, and supplies.
